Soo, our Fundraising Event Controller, and Maggie, our Fundraising Event Coordinator,
have set up a TV taping event for us to raise funds. It's fun AND we can earn $15 per
person if at least 20 people from our organization attend. We will be carpooling due to the
lack of parking spaces at the location. Please look your best with dark colors!

Parking is available on-site. Attached you will also find the Driving Directions
and Release Form
. Please bring the release form on the day of your service project.

Meet in front of Simpson Tower for carpool at 8:00am. Volunteer drivers are needed.

5.07.08 - The AICPA awards the Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students to outstanding accounting students with significant potential to become CPAs. For the 2007 – 2008 academic year, 137 accounting scholars of ethnically diverse backgrounds were selected as recipients of this prestigious award.

Applications are due soon, JUNE 2ND

Eligibility Requirements

Qualified students must:

- Be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate accounting program for the 2008 – 2009 academic year

- Intend to pursue the CPA designation upon graduation

- Have at least a 3.3 overall and cumulative GPA

- Have successfully completed at least 30 semester hours of college coursework and a minimum of 6 hours in accounting courses

- Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of an ethnic minority background

Payment and Renewals

Individual awards range from $1,500 – $5,000 and are renewable pending good academic status is maintained. Selected students will be notified by August 1, 2008 and payment will be sent to the school's financial aid office.

Application Process/Deadline

An applicant must submit a completed application, including; official transcript(s) from post-secondary institutes attended and a letter of recommendation from a CPA or faculty member.

Entries must be submitted to the AICPA by June 2, 2008. Selected students will be notified by August 1, 2008 and payment will be sent to the school's financial aid office.

5.07.08 - The Long Beach Centro CHA INC. has an opening for one full-time CASE MANAGER who will provide services to youth ages 14-24 participating in the WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT (WIA) CAlGRIP/ LIFT YOUTH WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM.

The position will be located at Centro CHA office at 727 Pine Avenue Long Beach, CA 90813.

4.20.08 - For those of you seeking summer jobs, Upward Bound is looking for summer staff. They are hiring tutors, residential advisors, and for teaching positions. They have a summer program that goes from July 7th - August 15th, Monday - Friday from 8 am - 5 pm. If you are interested, please apply ASAP. The first training meeting will be May 3rd.
